How to Protect Your Hardwood Floors With Felt Pads
Floors are a big investment. You probably spent lots of time choosing the right floor material for your room and choosing the perfect color. You then spent plenty of time and a considerable amount of money having it installed. Your want your floor to last long, and look as amazing as it did when you first installed it. But you have to put back the furniture. Therefore, how do you protect your floor from dents and scuffs caused by furniture? Simply put, how can you protect your hardwood floor from things such as sofas, chairs, tables, and so on? Here is how to protect the hardwood floors of your home.
Hardwood floors do make a room feeling inviting. However, they are very susceptible to dents, dulling and scratches. Yet they are installed in living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens--all areas with lots of furniture.
There are several options for protecting hardwood floors. For furniture that won't be moved a great deal, like bookshelves and cabinets, a good option would be tap-on pads. If you have to move these huge furniture items, you can put towels below to let them slide easily. If you have to move chairs, go for adhesive felt pads that will allow items to slide easily.
Protecting hardwood floors using felt pads or furniture floor protectors
Install felt pads on your furniture. You can either choose tap-in pads or self-adhesive pads, as well as your perfect sizes and thicknesses. Felt pads for furniture are available in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses. If your furniture is heavier, choose a thicker felt pad and even huge uncut self-adhesive square felt pads so you can cut the best shape for customizing furniture bottoms with odd shapes.
Lay the furniture item on its side , clean up the part where the felt pad will be applied, like the bottom of the leg of a chair, using a dry cloth. If there is any build up, you should use some soap and water to clean this area. This will create a clean, smooth surface for your felt pad to stick to.
Remove the paper on the adhesive side of the felt pad and press it strongly onto the furniture piece's bottom and hold for about ten seconds to achieve a tight seal. Or, if you're using a tap-in felt pad, gently tap the pad onto the furniture's leg with a hammer. Repeat this for each furniture piece.
Every few months, examine the felt chair leg pads to make sure they're still tightly stuck to the bottom of the furniture. Once the pads fall off completely or are worn out, replace them. For long-lasting protection, go for tap-in felt pads rather than self-adhesive pads as they usually last longer than the adhesive versions.
